Software

If you are feeling overwhelmed by compression choices, there is software available that can help you make choices by providing preset options. Most digital video editing software has export features that allow you to choose the delivery mode and compression settings:

Software Export Features
Great program with a wizard interface that allows you to choose from a large number of delivery modes as well as player formats. The settings for each delivery mode and player (e.g.: Quicktime 56K; Real CD-ROM) have been tested and optimized and generally do not need much tweaking. Cleaner also allows you to batch compress multiple videos with individual settings.
iMovie Allows you to choose from different preset delivery modes. Also allows you to customize these settings.
Final Cut Express Final Cut Express can be used to enhance iMovie files and contains a wide variety of output and compression settings.
Quicktime Pro Allows you to customize settings for different delivery modes for display in the Quicktime Player. A plug-in for exporting to Real Player is also available.
